This is an original travel poster for the famous Brixton Academy in London.
Originally built on the site of a private garden in 1929, this Stockwell Road venue first opened its doors as a cinema and theatre. It was designed by architects Thomas Somerford and E. A. Stone.
After showing its final film on July 29, 1972, the theater was transformed into a new kind of entertainment space. In September of that year, it reopened as a discotheque called the Sundown Centre.
Following another rebranding in August 2000, the venue came under the management of the Academy Music Group. It continues to thrive today, hosting a diverse lineup of live music and club nights.
